Lambing"Icelandic sheep mostly take care of themselves." The thing most needed at lambing time is for us, as shepherds, to keep repeating the above statement to ourselves, and, to have patience. Having a mentor is definitely a good thing. And, if you are fortunate enough to have a large animal veterinarian close by that answers their phone at all hours -- that's another good thing. But, do you want to call a friend or vet in the middle of the night? Will they be available when you have a problem? In my opinion, self reliance is the best 'good thing'. |
